Where is the Love?

Happy Birthday Church!!

1 When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.  Acts 2:1-4 | NKJV

Today we commemorate the birth of the church.

The Christian holiday of Pentecost, celebrated on the fiftieth day after Easter, commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and other followers of Jesus Christ while they were in Jerusalem celebrating the Feast of Weeks.

This festival is known by several names that derive from its meaning and timing. Also known as the Feast of Harvest (Exodus 23:16), it represents the firstfruits (Numbers 28:26) gathered as the result of the labor of those who completed the spring grain harvests in ancient Israel (Exodus 23:16).

It is also called the Feast of Weeks (Exodus 34:22), with this name coming from the seven weeks plus one day (50 days in all) that are counted to determine when to celebrate this festival (Leviticus 23:16). Similarly, in the New Testament, which was written in Greek, this festival is known as Pentecost ( Pentekostos in the original), which means “fiftieth” (W.E. Vine, Vine’s Complete Expository Dictionary of Old and New Testament Words , 1985, “Pentecost”).

Peter preach on that Sunday (the day of Pentecost) and people gave their lives to The Lord. Jesus sowed His life on Passover. There was an harvest of souls on Pentecost.

37 Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Men and brethren, what shall we do?”38 Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call. 40 And with many other words he testified and exhorted them, saying, “Be saved from this perverse generation.” 41 Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them.  Acts 2:37-41 | NKJV

This is the beginning of Acts 1:8

8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”  Acts 1:8 | NKJV

People respond to power!

Signs gained people’s attention. Love kept them connected.

Love is the greatest power!

8 Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away.  1 Corinthians 13:8 | NKJV

13 And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.  1 Corinthians 13:13 | NKJV

16 By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.  1 John 3:16 | NKJV

I cannot tell you who you need to show more love too, but I can tell you, showing more love is the only way to change realities! We reap what we sow!

We cannot sow indifference and reap love.

We cannot sow skepticism and reap love.

We cannot sow payback and reap love.

We cannot sow selfishness and reap love.

We must sow love to gain love. Every seed can produce but every seed will not produce. The ground affects the rate and measure of return. It is not our responsibility to make others good ground. Our privilege is to give ourselves to others. Others should receive and multiply the efforts. Observing others response is a wise thing to do when assessing how to sow again.

12 No one has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God abides in us, and His love has been perfected in us. 13 By this we know that we abide in Him, and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit. 14 And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent the Son as Savior of the world. 15 Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. 16 And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him.  1 John 4:12-16 | NKJV
